Feryal Özel

He was born in Istanbul in 1975. Feryal Özel, whose mother and children are physicians , graduated from Üsküdar American High School (1992) and received his Physics and Applied Mathematics education at Columbia University in 1996 with second place and High Honor Degree. He spent the following year at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland, and at the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen, Denmark, where he completed his master’s degree in physics.After a year spent in Europe, he returned to the USA and accepted Harvard University’s doctoral program. He completed his doctorate in astrophysics in 2002. He married astrophysicist Demetrios Psaltis in 2001. There were 2 daughters named Deniz and Selin from this marriage.Moving to Tucson, Arizona in his son’s year and winning a Hubble postdoctoral fellowship, Özel worked at the Princeton Institute for Advanced Studies from 2002-2005. In 2003, he became known with the “Big Ideas” dispenser, along with the world’s most renowned scientists, and their bait for Neutron stars, black holes and magnetars. His studies are carried out at the University of Arizona.Awarded the success of scientific work for astrophysics. In addition to his scientific studies, he publishes science in popular publications and frequently appears in documentary programs on PBS, History Channel and CNN channels 

His research interests are in black holes, neutron stars and theoretical astrophysics.Özel has been working at NASA since 2001, whose academic career was shaped at US universities such as Columbia, Harvard and Princeton, and at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland and at the Neils Bohr Institute in Denmark. In 2003, it was recognized with its “Big Ideas” list with the world’s best known scientists The Modeling and Analysis Working Group, headed by Özel, who is working on imaging black holes, which Albert Einstein mentioned in the Theory of Relativity but could not be visualized because they absorb telescope rays, managed to produce a single photograph in 2019 by combining millions of data obtained from different telescopes
